Founded in 2017, the Midwest Foot and Ankle Fellowship strives to provide cutting-edge education and opportunities for the fellows.  The program is supported by the Foot and Ankle Center of Nebraska and the Midwest Medical Education Foundation.  The program focuses on the surgical reconstruction of the foot and ankle as well as amputation prevention and wound healing.  This well-rounded exposure as includes a focus on practice management skills.

Training goals:

• To produce a competent Podiatric Physician and Surgeon skilled in performing reconstructive surgery procedures of the forefoot, midfoot, rearfoot and ankle
• To produce competent Podiatric Physician and Surgeon skilled in performing amputation prevention through advance wound care techniques, proper nonsurgical offloading and limb salvage skills such as surgical offloading and deformity correction
• To provide the requisite skills necessary to practice in a competent and ethical manner
• To provide practice management skills including proper billing and documentation
• To produce cutting-edge research in Foot and Ankle surgery.
   

Training opportunities:

• Research in limb salvage and advanced reconstruction of the foot and ankle
• Training and travel to courses such as arthroscopy and external fixation
• Presentation opportunities at local, regional and national scientific meetings
